Special Interest Groups

New to QRSEsoc for 2025

QRSE special interest groups provide an active forum for networking, discussion, activities, knowledge sharing and debate amongst QRSE members. Special interest groups should be focused upon philosophical, methodological, geographical, cultural or methods-based interests (e.g., arts-based methods, post-qualitative inquiry, the development of qualitative research in middle to low income countries etc.)

It is anticipated QRSE special interest groups will last for 2 years and will be financially supported (up to £1000/year) for relevant activities that benefit members, the society and in some cases, the general public. We encourage QRSE special interest groups to hold at least one activity in their host country to support the development of qualitative research and the society internationally. Hybrid or recorded activities/initiatives for QRSE members are also encouraged.

How to apply to set up a Special Interest Group

All special interest groups must apply to the QRSE Executive Board and meet the minimal requirements outlined below. Please ensure you detail the following requirements in a 2-3 page application:

  • A Chair who is a member of QRSE (minimum 1 year pre-application and remains a member for the duration of the special interest group).

  • A Steering Group of between 2 and 5 QRSE members (list of proposed Steering Group members must be included with the application).

  • A Name and Brief that is consistent with the aims and objectives of QRSE.

  • Justification of relevancy to advancing QRSE.

  • An outline and timeline of suggested activities.

Please email your completed application to QRSE at QRSEsoc@gmail.com with Special Interest Group in the subject line. The deadline for submission of completed applications is 28th February 2025

Criteria for selection

We anticipate supporting up to 5 special interest groups each year. Applications for special interest groups will be evaluated based upon the requirements outlined above by a select number of the QRSE Executive Board. Applicants will be notified of the results via email by 31st March 2025.
